Michael,
Help a brother in need by introducing this monster player to your subscribers.
Kirk Fletcher recently had a stroke and is recovering slowly but can't play live and until he can, it would be great if you could share just what a fantastic player he is.
Best wishes
Justin
A rare video where Stevie ray Vaughan temporarily parts from his strat, and plays a 12 string acoustic in a way Iβve never heard one played in my life
I really love a technical bit of metal music, but it's easy to get worn out if that's all I listen to.
When I first heard Elder I was elated. This band just jams, and they don't need to be explained.
I listen to them to and from work on Fridays. Their music will put you in such a good mood for the weekend.
I wanted to share a live performance and debated between a few of their tracks. I landed on the title track from their album Dead Roots Stirring. The recording is high quality and the performance is pretty tight. Hopefully the video isn't too long. It moves through several different grooves, each one better than the last. My person favorite starting around the 10:15 mark.
I hope you enjoy listening!
Beautiful guitar instrumental from the lead guitarist of The Big Push. Using nothing but a looper and his trusty Epiphone Sheraton II Pro he shows off his amazing tone. It's a great video for studying technique as you have a clear view of him playing the whole time. Also, he's playing in a bath tub and you don't see that every day. Would love to hear Michael talk about the tone and techniques on display here.
This is a new song but . . .
An instant classic, stunningly composed, stunning lyrics.
Thereβs not much one can say about this that the listening wonβt cure.
Two legends: A man heading toward the latter years of his career, a woman seemingly ageless, and one of the greatest parts ever played on a 58 burst. Oh, and Danny on drums. And Richard on rhythm guitar. And Emmylou on acoustic. Dear god, itβs perfection.
Blissful tones and masterful songwriting. Dylan is a hidden gem.
I loved your Opeth reaction. I'm a long time Opeth fan and learned so damn much from that 26 minute video. I would really love to hear your breakdown of these guys and this song. Two guitars playing back and forth and then grooving down together and the poor bass player stuck in the corner doing his thing! Love your stuff!
This video is an unbelievable showcase of each of the band members. The mix on this YouTube playthrough is very well separated with Tim in the right ear, Scott in the left, the thunderous yet simple bassline, and incredible texture from the drummer. I would love your take on this after seeing this band for the first time a few months ago at a metal festival, unfortunately, Slipknot was on at the same time so not a lot of people there got to enjoy the freakin MASSIVE bass tone that they provide live. Cheers Michael, you are forever my mentor and I think of you a lot when I need that reminder just to pick up the damn guitar and keep growing!
Not much to say - youβll see why I uploaded if you have listen!
I think you nailed it about what makes Radiohead so different from many of the other artists in the blues/jazz/rock field - they are metronomic in their music, and the groove is all from harmony and melody, and I think this track exemplifies that. The drums take a back seat but it's ever-present and a constant which the rest of the band build on. Especially Colin Greenwood the bassist - listen to his playing, he loves to utilise the off beat for his bass lines, and they weave just as intricate a texture as the lead guitar and the rhythm guitars. Put simply, Radiohead are the sum of their parts, and I don't think they'd function if they were to be minus any member.
Sturgill masterpiece
Just saw this performance for the first time from 1984. The long and loose intro builds up to the climax at 5:58 with an electrifying solo by Elven Bishop. The whole video is filled with cool licks!!
There is no one better. Another GuitarGate member put it best, Joscho plays all the things we wish we had thought of to play.
start 1:13
end 5:57
Just randomly stumbled on these cats a few weeks ago. I get so many vibes from their 2023 album Data Doom. I've been singing their praise since I heard it. I hear XTC, Cheap Trick, White Stripes, DEVO, and many others. Very riff heavy and I love every minute of it. Not to mention their drummer played with Mike Watt and credits Tony Allen and Fela Kuti as influencing them on this record. Just read his t-shirt. Says it all. Much love my brother see you soon.
It's one of the greatest funky trip-hop songs ever recorded.
Not really a react request, just thought it was worth sharing such a great moment. Being a random youtube clip I half expected this to be a monumental fail but watching the reaction of Keith and his band is pricelss as this dude, who it turns out has obviously put in the hours, gets rewarded for his years of passion and effort - pulling this out of the bag in front of your guitar hero, with that crowd and someone else's guitar is quite an achievement in my book - enjoy!
This four song set they did with WesternAF is truly amazing and this is my favorite from the set.
Hi Michael,
Thanks for taking the time to do reactions! Would love to have you react to this original song by my band, The Whags called "Dirt". It is a song we wrote back in 2018 when we formed and has undergone many changes since. We got into the studio about a month ago and laid it down live with video here.
I think this song does a pretty good job to encapsulate our sound; vocal harmonies, guitar solos, boogie and funk rhythms, and open-ended jam spaces.
Hope you and the rest of the listeners / watchers enjoy!
-Chris
Vincent Neil Emerson is a Texas songwriter who has a knack for writing really personal and moving songs. My guess is you'll dig it man!
Nile is a legendary producer and guitar player, and it's super cool to see him perform in this smaller setting. Would love to see your reaction to this super funky set!
Gary Moore and Brian Downey with a fantastic version of Thin Lizzy's Don't Believe a Word. Starts with the slow version then goes into the regular album version, both incredible and Gary just owning the guitar lead as usual.
The tone and performance are amazing. Just loving making music.
