One of my favorite bands! Loved the last video you did on them and their new songs/album is killer.

Anything this girl writes is incredible, she has ruined all other music for me.
Peter Mulvey, king of Alternate tunings.. Been a fave of mine for Years
If Love Is Not Enough starts at 16:50, although you should listen to all of his music!
Would love to hear your thoughts on Peter!
The Red Clay Strays are the most unique and authentic band I've seen in years. I've been following them for the last three years and they are on a rocket ship right now. It's hard to put into words how to describe their sound other than amazing. If Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash got together, you might end up with the Red Clay Strays. Best American band on the road right now and they are great human beings as well.
Hi Michael! Long time listener, first time caller. Finally decided to get the lifetime membership, and am excited to start the courses. I've been watching your reactions and breakdowns for some time now, and I've always wanted you to do one for Father John Misty. He's quite an enigma. He used to be the drummer of the Fleet Foxes, and then broke away to pursue a solo career. Hard to believe that a drummer of a folk band could go on to do such amazing things. Hope you enjoy. Btw this whole performance is just downright phenomenal, but i thought this would be an exciting song to jump in on. Thanks in advance. -Dan Lee
Prince at his finest!
Hands down the best Hell in a Bucket out there.
Some ridiculous tones throughout this video. One of my favorite bands, just came to Baltimore in October for the first time. They're from Norway and they have some incredible songs and content.
For the video, only view minute 10:13 - 17:23. So about 7 minutes for this song.
I found this to be such a unique solo arrangement. He uses the loop to build an incredible space full of jazz chords that contain a sense of hope behind them. Once the space is built, he starts to tell a story with his guitar, using a combo of finger plucking, hybrid picking, and regular picking to unfold the iconic Creator Has a Master Plan lick in a multitude of ways.
Hope you enjoy as much as I did during my first listen!
New lifetime member here, found your lessons by way of you reacts one of your react videos that my brother sent over, so thought I'd share one here. David Jacobs Strain playing an amazing version of Stephen Stills "Treetop Flyer". If you haven't heard David before, you're in for a treat, and this duo version with Bob Beach is an amazing showcase of just what these guys can do. Their sense of rhythm and dynamics is next to none. Enjoy!
It's been a few years since you last gave Shakey a look so I'd love if you check out this awesome song! This particular live performance was my first exposure to Shakey years ago and shot me down a rabbit hole that resulted in me catching him live every time he comes through town. I believe this song is in Open C# and that gorgeous tone of both his guitar and his voice are absolutely infectious.
John shares an unreleased demo of Gravity (he diidnt know it even existed) interesting to hear how something was vs what it became
Huge fan of yours for a while now, youβre seriously missing out on Dallas Greenβs new stuff with City and Colour. This is a new take on an older song, such a great tone and unreal mixing.
Amazing musicians and I wouldn't complain if I reached such a level as guitar player Eddie Roberts from the new Master Sounds. They have great feel, groove, and improvisations. Many great tracks and many great albums with great grooves where to hear great parts of every instrument.
Aviations is what you get when you take 4 Berkeley grad students, add a bassist and a pianist - both of whom are god-tier - shake and stir. Their blend of cinematic, progressive heavy music is often called "cozy metal", and every musician should experience their work ASAP.
Top 3 song to pop on if you ever have to out run the cops! What's up Baltimore!
Hey Michael I'm assuming you are familiar with Chris, a Baltimore native. Im a huge fan of his stuff with " The Bridge" and a few of his solo tracks. This one though, just realy does it. It's got a hook you can hang a winter coat on! Hope you enjoy my friend, thanks for all you do!
Dan
It would be great to see you react to this video and maybe explain how it's possible to get a result that good without the musicians playing together. But also would love your reaction on all the incredibly talented musicians and guitarists in this video ;)
PS: i've just started you courses and its really great to follow along and start again with the basics, and your feedback on every single video I post is the best thing so thank you very much!
And I'm french so sorry if my english is not good
This is an Irish traditional, Michael. I know that perhaps this song is not especially of interest to guitar players, even though I think the acoustic guitar is quite haunting. And this man's voice is great: very intense. Give it a listen: you will not be disappointed.
This live Dream Theater video serves as a showcase for some of John Petrucci's finest soloing. The studio version of Hollow Years is a run of the mill ballad, but the live performance turns into a showcase. It starts with some lovely guitar/keys interplay a prelude, good use of the piezo in the guitar. The guitar solo partway through the song though is a jaw dropper, the perfect marriage of technique and feel. Stick around for some killer piano towards the end of the song!
Like so many other creatives of my generation I have been overwhelmingly inspired by Patti as an artist. I was given Patti's book by my best friend while I was spending some time in a psych ward. To call it serendipitous would be an immense understatement. I was dealing with things I barely understood, yet through her book, I found myself reading my own story. From sexuality, to child-father relations and religious trauma, I was gently being shown that "my people" exist and that they were worth finding.
This performance embodies the supernatural stardom that inspired me when nothing else could! To all my artist friends: keep going!
Hey Michael,
You gotta check out Royal Blood if you havenβt heard of them. They are a duo out of England. Their latest song βPull Me Throughβ is incredible with a chord progression I would love to hear explained. They seem to have borrowed chords and it gives the song an ominous sound.
You also need to check out the singers bass playing, it took until the end of the first watch for me to catch what was going on.
Thank you for all you do, your videos have taught me so much about theory, and guitar gate is always good for getting me out of a rut.
Hope to see the video!
I guess the story on this performance is that the band was told they had a 5 minute set for this television show appearance. They chose to do a 7 minute song of theirs insanely fast to fit the allotted 5 minutes.
Ren with his guitar out on the streets late at night with Sam filming. 3 short acts; each done as a single shot video. You can hear the street sounds as Ren tells the story of Jenny and Screech.
