  • Herbie Hancock in 2013 playing "Seven Teens" into an altered version of his classic "Watermelon Man." This is just fantastic. The way the rhythm section manipulates time and feel, not only in the transition from one tune to the next, but throughout each time through. Very tasty back & forth between Tal Wilkenfeld on bass & Herbie Hancock on his synth. The band inches towards the familiar pocket and feel that everyone associates with Watermelon Man. Amazing musicianship. Don't sleep on the guitarist either. He is playing very percussively in some sections, but it is so right! Then when he and Herbie share leads, is just did the beautifully angular movement that feels so natural. THIS IS MUSICIANSHIP. Great stage communication. Drums are great throughout too! Subtle syncopated Hi Hat & Kick are just smooth like mayonnaise. Ignore the 5 second interview that is inserted after the transition. .
