I saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds tour recently and he did a song from this era - I had no idea.
Post Punk Brilliance!

Iβve heard that guitar competed with horns in the early days. Itβs nice to hear them coexisting together in this cover.

A rare gem of energetic bliss from a period where Robert Smith (of the Cure) played with Siouxsie and the Banshies. The entire band is in top form here.

Most of my "guitar heroes" are not traditional heroes - mostly known for providing texture to a groove where the bass might be laying down a melodic foundation for a killer groove. Whenever I hear this, I want to pick up my guitar, buy a Tele, and start a band.

In this performance Reeves Gabrels transforms a consummate Bowie into a recharged Billy Idol
The energy from the guitar reminds Bowie why he loves music and the energy is palpable.
Reeves plays for the Cure now.

Lucky to see the guys many times. Took my appreciation of music to new levels.

Canβt get enough of this band lately. This guitar opener never gets old. Unique tones from an SG too.
I especially like the intro and the sick pocket groove at the end.

My new band crush - I have a man crush on the guitar players' melodic and texture sensibilities. Originally I thought these were offset tones and I was happy to discover it was an SG.

This little known band from the post-punk era of the early 80s is still winning over fans who discover them. Thereβs something very special about the way Adrian chose such wonderful melodic and harmonic textures to sell his songs. Definitely an underrated but immensely gratifying use of guitar.

One of my favorite songs off of there famously successful βsongs from the big chairβ itβs a sleeper album track with a solid construction taking a listener on a great journey

a solid composition with a great performance - but damn - the vocals - iconic delivery. I've been gassing on Elfman's early compositions as I study song theory. Lots of call-response and masterful arrangements.

One of Alt rock's finest influences - John McKay - A humbucker like you've never heard! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McKay_(musician)

I had the privilege to meet and get to know John when I picked up some pedals off of him and he introduced me to the next level of local talent in my area. One of the nicest dudes, a solid musician with a solid catalog, and a guitar geek through and through. Here's a shout for getting to know the local talent in your area - They can use the support as they get back to gigging!

In the spirit of Mental health awareness and in support of the video Michael presented dealing with veteran suicide I offer up this track as audio-only simply because it's the best version.
I only discovered The Sound this past year or so and I'm blown away - By doing some digging I discovered that the main writer, Adrian Borland also took his own life - he fought a long hard battle with mental illness to the point where he was institutionalized several times.
The thing I really connected with is the honesty of his writing and the visceral purity of his music - I feel like you can really hear how music gave him the means to process things. It's a great reminder that no matter the feeling or emotion you can address it or tease it apart with music. I'd be lost without it. As recovering alkie / addict with 31 years clean/sober the stuff Adrian adresses in his music takes years of therapy to get to. I post in the hopes it can help someone else.
I can't escape myself
So many feelings
Pent up in here
Left all alone, I'm with
The one I most fear
I'm sick and I'm tired
Of reasoning
Just want to break out
Shake off this skin
I, I can't
Escape myself
All my problems
Loom larger than life
I can't swallow
Another slice
Seems like my shadow
Mocks every stride
Can I learn to live with
What's trapped inside?
I, I can't
Escape myself
So many feelings
Pent up in here
Left all alone, I'm with
The one I most fear
I'm sick and I'm tired
Of reasoning
Just wanna break out
Shake off this skin
I, I can't
Escape myself
I, I can't
Escape myself
I, I, I can't
Escape myself

Someday we will be this type of society again. π€The queen one is a trip...Can have tons of rhythm players but taking lead is for the select few.
