Michael, just found your YouTube channel and website about a week ago thanks to the Black Pumas and love everything your doing. Awesome!

Jimmy Page was my first real guitar hero and this performance is my all time favorite. A lot of it is ripping through C minor pentatonic for the intro and solo, but the chord progression in the chorus is what makes the song IMO. It goes beyond bluesy into this feeling of desperation and longing. What is it about this progression that gives it that extra push to get there?

Keen to hear what you think of this guys unique way of playing. Its straight up rock but special because of the way Kotzen channels himself through his guitar and voice

Hello Michael!

I've been enjoying your YouTube videos for about a year now. I guess I'm new to the tribe, but better late than never, right? The songs you cover are top notch and right up my alley! And your playing/teaching style are a breath of fresh air. I've been playing almost 30 years (as a hobby) and I still come away learning from you each and every time. You've even turned me onto some great new bands and artists. I don't think I've seen you cover any Warren Haynes (solo or with Gov't Mule). He is one of the best blues/rock/jam players out there and I'd love to get your take on this groovy Gov't Mule classic.

Thanks for the music!
-Eric

Hey Michael,

If you haven't heard of Walter Trout yet you have to give him a listen. The Youtube video I posted includes a comment that says watching him is like getting hit with a hurricane, and no joke after seeing him his set at Jazz Festival 2018 - NOLA, you couldn't find a better description.

Walter has an incredible story and one of the greatest comebacks in music. The day I saw him, he engaged the entire the audience about his heroic journey from being stuck in a coma and battling through recovery from a liver transplant. He didn't know if he would even be able to use his hands again and spent considerable time have to re-learn how play the guitar from scratch. Pretty inspiring stuff man! As you can see from the video I shared he has so much heart into his music, he really is the true definiton of the blues. Check out his spotify, he plays with some incredible musicians from the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Robby Krieger, Edgar Winter, Eric Gales, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and on and on.

Michael your site is incredible! I think it's my 3rd week on here can't wait to keep diving into this. As Walter Trout says, "We're ALL in this together!!"

If you love Kacey Musgraves, you'll love Patty Griffin.

I saw Ghost Light in Denver (Cervantes' 2019) and was blown away. I liken their performance to a rollercoaster: wicked tempo changes, syncopation, improv, impeccable dynamics, and master musicianship.

"Formed in 2017, the group brings together five consummately talented artists from across the musical spectrumβ€”guitarists/singers Tom Hamilton and Raina Mullen, pianist Holly Bowling, bassist Dan Africano, and drummer Scotty Zwangβ€”and thrusts them into a wholly new context. The result is a record, β€˜Best Kept Secrets,’ that transcends the sonic contributions and background of any single member, a collection that’s at once gritty and refined, sprawling and restrained, straightforward and psychedelic."

John Mayer covering Like a Rolling Stone. Very melodic throughout the whole song, especially the solo

Great song. Lead and rhythm guitarists generating some good sounds

Willie Nelson's son, Lukas Nelson, performing his song, Find Yourself, solo acoustic. Great bluesy solo around the 3 min mark.

Yo Michael, the recent Yonder Mountain String Band was great. It started a discussion down in the comments section about the jamband bluegrass revival of the late 90s and early 2000s. Someone brought up Leftover Salmon. That, my friend, is a hot tip.

I spent my formative years going to see this psychedelic bluegrass band (actually they call it Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass!) from Colorado called Leftover Salmon...I've seen a lot of bands...but those were some of the most wild and rollicking nights I remember. Small venues. 4 + hour shows.

The 90s were the best, while late banjo player (affectionately known as Ban Jovi) Mark Vann was still alive. Check out this...one of their signature tunes...The Funky Mountain Fogdown (ala the Foggy Mountain Breakdown). I just wanna see the grin on your face when you experience this energy.

Enjoy. Cheers. Thanks for what you do.

Hey Michael, unfortunately I have to leave The Gate for a little while, just had baby boy #2.. I don't have to tell you much about that! I want to say that I greatly appreciate and enjoy what you're doing and your method of teaching has been so helpful, thank you.
It has always been a goal of mine to be able to play the solo to Stranglehold. I can hum, whistle and hear the whole thing from memory.. just a monster of a song, an all-time favorite.
I can't figure out when this performance is from but the solo is pretty close to the studio version, and Derek St. Holmes wails the vocals, big fan of his as well.
So I wanted to put in one last request before I take a break, but I will be back! and continue to follow you when I can, especially Cornell '77 - so much fun! Thanks again, Michael.

From Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert, GE Smith on lead, Anton Fig on drums. Great obscure Dylan tune.

Hey Guys, this video gives me chills every time I watch it. It is a slow rhythm blues in E. I am so anxious for a REACT from Michael, there are things happening here that I just cannot seem to work out myself. Obviously I know where all the notes are, but the way Clapton plays this particular Driftin' Blues, I think it's just incredible stuff! Hope you Enjoy!

Thanks so much for Guitargate and your immensely educational reaction videos. I have and still do use many other learning tools, but you are, by far, the best I have come across at demystifying the "why and how" the music works in the context of guitar. With that said, I think the world could use a little more Jonny Lang. This live performance is my all-time favorite. Whether you react to it or not, please enjoy. Thanks again.

Hi Michael. Thanks for the videos.

Wanted to share with you (and hope you react to) this band from Seattle, Andy Coe Band. They are a Dead cover band, and they simply are one of, if not the best dead cover band out there right now.

Andy the guitarist has some of the best Jerry feel I’ve ever heard, and can take you on a serious journey. This track is pretty fire and will definitely get you moving. Super humble guy and he seems to be pretty content with his residency at a tiny bar venue in Seattle called the Blue Moon (pre COVID at least). He also has been doing some acoustic live streams Monday night on his Facebook which are quite a spectacle.

Enjoy,
Chris

Love your REACTS videos. Super amazing. You do a lot of acoustic songs, how about an acoustic conversation. Molly and Billy were so fun to watch in this one starting off with the Beaumont Rag and just going nuts.

You might not do this because it's a commercial for the Acoustaconic Strat, but it would be great to watch and learn from you "pick"ing it apart.

Brian Alexander here - This is a great example of what can be done with great lyrics and simple playing
