Hey Michael, unfortunately I have to leave The Gate for a little while, just had baby boy #2.. I don't have to tell you much about that! I want to say that I greatly appreciate and enjoy what you're doing and your method of teaching has been so helpful, thank you.
It has always been a goal of mine to be able to play the solo to Stranglehold. I can hum, whistle and hear the whole thing from memory.. just a monster of a song, an all-time favorite.
I can't figure out when this performance is from but the solo is pretty close to the studio version, and Derek St. Holmes wails the vocals, big fan of his as well.
So I wanted to put in one last request before I take a break, but I will be back! and continue to follow you when I can, especially Cornell '77 - so much fun! Thanks again, Michael.

Really enjoy Jackie Greene's take on this old Traffic tune. I saw him play with Phil and Friends at Bonnaroo 2008 and loved his playing and vocals, but kind of forgot about him until recently. He is extraordinarily versatile, simple and passionate, which is inspiring as someone who likes to mess around with a number of instruments. Sound and production on this one is great, and a solo from each guitarist showcases some different styles. Thanks!

Hey Michael, I finally got a little practice in as I have been struggling to relearn the guitar after years of just "messing around". Hammering on Lesson 2 Octave Shapes, I used C# and F# to work on, with inspiration from one of my favorite Zappa tunes, from the 1988 instrumental album of guitar excerpts from live shows, simply titled "Guitar". Following you for a couple months now, you've mentioned not necessarily "getting" Zappa yet, but I think I have the key to unlock that door. A tasteful 12-bar blues in C#, with an opening lick and 10 (ish) count single note that gives me goose bumps every time. By all means, pre-screen before recording an "ice cold" reaction. Thanks man!

Relearning guitar after never really knowing the neck. Also working on playing clear single notes, in time, without noise from other strings; and slowly figuring out a vibrato style that works for me. Here playing C# (1/root) and F# (4). Will ultimately work up to playing full 12-bar blues progression with a 5 (G# in this case). This might be my go-to warm-up lesson for a long time!
