Favorite music
All of it. (Well most of it).
Biography
I picked up guitar my first year of college. An electric guitar without an amp, and a mel bay or similar book on Lonnie Johnson tabs (might as well start easy right?) Eventually was hooked on the blues and folk music. Fairly soon traded my electric in for an acoustic and spent lots of time trying to finger pick songs from the Steve Grossman tabs, Homespun Record VHS videos, fingerstyle guitar magazine, and the likes.

Still to this day have that Lonnie Johnson book, and it is still makes for a great challenge! ;) . There is such a uniqueness to his sound.

Some of my favorite guitarists are Roy Buchanan, Lonnie Johnson , Gary Moore, Paul Rose, Guthrie Trapp, Mike Dawes, David Rawlings, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, and Prince (the gold standard =).

It's been about a year since I plowed through as many courses here as I could. After that I have just been focused on learning as many songs as possible and not really focusing on technique.

Came back to drink from the well again and see what comes up for me a second round through the courses.

This is where I started, with asking myself how I am doing on my pentatonics, and I can definitely tell a difference. Last year when I started there is no way a basic melody through all the positions would have just come out of me.

The melody towards the end was spontaneous, came out of nowhere. Hoooray!

Went to the next lesson and realized I wasn't really doing what was asked. Michael is this thinking on the right track?

Mainly thinking G Maj the whole way, trying to trust my ear, and pick out some of the diad positions along the way. It's a balancing of act between ear and mind lol.

Going to hang out on this lesson a bit more but wanted to start with A to try to blow out any remaining cobweb areas on the fretboard in my safe place key. =D

The bass thing was just some weird personal challenge that evolved while practicing :P

Heard someone say the other day he has about a 2 month lag from when learning something well and to where it starts to show up in their playing. I could so relate to that. Still feel like everything I've learned in these lessons is still simmering, but things are at least cooking =D

Woke up this morning with some sort of wang dang doodle guitar riff in my head, so this is how that went in my dreams prob all night lol.

Found that the circle of fifths is a great way to practice these, so sharing if anyone else finds helpful.. Just went clockwise in this example from C and ending on C# to help ingrain each move set a bit better.
