Starting to see those shapes overlayed on each other a bit better...and It is a fun bit of discovery going on at this point.
Still to this day have that Lonnie Johnson book, and it is still makes for a great challenge! ;) . There is such a uniqueness to his sound.
Some of my favorite guitarists are Roy Buchanan, Lonnie Johnson , Gary Moore, Paul Rose, Guthrie Trapp, Mike Dawes, David Rawlings, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, and Prince (the gold standard =).

I always think of this intro to Paul Simon's Heart and Bones when I think of double stops, you can almost imagine him doing the same exercise when he wrote the song. =D The rest is just misc licks...

Didn't realize the fat and cool cat Tippers was in the video. She plays the imaginary keyboards. You can see it in her face when she disapproves towards the end.

This whole lesson really made my head explode. I had never considered playing a major pentatonic over a min7 chord ever, but it really is a helpful tool to have in the bag.
Humble beginnings with this one, going to keep working on a few more keys and wrapping my head around it.

Taking a second stab at this progression after a few more weeks of work on it. That record button is a demon.

Woke up this morning and decided to do the best of 3 takes. That camera is no joke.
Michael, do you think I should stick with working on improv maybe with other chord progressions and post those before moving on, or do I just keep rolling to the next lesson?
Thank you!

Alright Michael, Been drilling these for a month now as often as I can. Was inspired by a video lesson from Guthrie Trapp where he talked about going up with the arp and down with the scale (although he was mainly talking about doing it within one octave, I found this a great brain twister so added that bit into my practice.)

While I grew up on old country music, I had never watched Glenn Campbell perform. Saw this the other day and thought Wow, this is a man who has honed his craft... and what a tough crowd to play in front of lol. I can't tell if he is using his pinky in the hybrid picking rolls, but as someone who started with fingerstyle not being able to do the 3 string rolls has been bugging me, so starting to work on that with my hybrid picking (hey at least it makes for good couch guitar/mindless wood shedding. ;)

Really trying to get these cemented in my brain. I think in the past I've always gotten the major shapes down and then assumed since I had the patterns down, the minors would come somehow naturally. This isn't nearly as true as I originally imagined lol. So I have a notepad that has Octave shape, Arp, Chord, Pentatonic, and Scale. And I a decided this month is just a month dedicated to minor shapes. Then I think I will still have to go back and do it once more for the major shapes. My brain is stubborn. =D

Really working on hunting chord tones down. Kinda makes one's brain hurt! I did have the light bulb moment of how/why I can sometimes get lost where I am in a I IV V progression with that root note also being the fifth of the 4 chord, which sounds perfectly happy and solid in the I or the IV.

Still get 'dear in headlights' when my fingers want to wrestle control from my brain, but starting to connect those constellations lol

I am loving the lessons so far. Things are starting to click, feeling like a baby learning to walk, but yeah starting to click!
Hopefully will up my production values soon, just moved into a new home and still piecing my studio stuff back together.
Glad to be a part of such a great community.

Hi Michael, love your channel! I'm a recovering alcoholic, 5 years sober, and guitar has been such an anchor in my sobriety. I love that you touch on the subject and share your own experiences along with the music lessons.
I'm in my late 40's now and have been playing since I was in my early 20s. I really love all genres of music, but if I had to pick an all time favorite from a song writing viewpoint it would be this great Iron and Wine song. Would love your take on it!
Thank you so much!
