How about a Holiday special?

Today I am sharing a band that is very near and dear to me and my heart. The Oh Hellos are an amazingly talented group of people who have taken what are normally very "traditional" Holiday songs and flipped them on their head, creating something I believe is quite stunning and FUN.

While there may not be a lot of "lead" happening, the rhythm, theory, and syncopation behind all of these songs/medleys in this performance is fantastic.

Two legends: A man heading toward the latter years of his career, a woman seemingly ageless, and one of the greatest parts ever played on a 58 burst. Oh, and Danny on drums. And Richard on rhythm guitar. And Emmylou on acoustic. Dear god, it’s perfection.

Day 1 lesson on 7th chords in Bb. I made a simple backing track in Studio One and played directly in while taking a video at the same time. I didn't know any of these shapes except the 3rd fret one so it took me all week to get it down and the 13th fret one is still not quick. Definitely a different style for me.

I loved your Opeth reaction. I'm a long time Opeth fan and learned so damn much from that 26 minute video. I would really love to hear your breakdown of these guys and this song. Two guitars playing back and forth and then grooving down together and the poor bass player stuck in the corner doing his thing! Love your stuff!
