Biography
Picked up my first instrument in 2002 when i was 35 going through a divorce, the 5 string banjo. Learned Scruggs style, then learned clawhammer style and enough rhythm guitar to get by in jams. Decided to take up guitar for real during covid and have been working on it ever since but struggling to put it all together. Raised in Wisconsin, did an Army Airborne stint, lived in Alaska 15 years. Currently semi retired on a livestock ranch in California's Central Coast raising sheep and dairy goats.

Day 1 lesson on 7th chords in Bb. I made a simple backing track in Studio One and played directly in while taking a video at the same time. I didn't know any of these shapes except the 3rd fret one so it took me all week to get it down and the 13th fret one is still not quick. Definitely a different style for me.

Hey Michael, I watched a Beato video a while back where he said the most important song he ever learned was Hey Joe so I thought I better learn it myself. I did and he was right, so much stuff packed in there. Once I got it down I went looking for some variations on it and stumbled across Popa Chubby. Wow is all i can say about this guy. Talk about new study material!! How about telling us about some of his choices on this classic tune? I come from a bluegrass banjo background so all of this stuff is new and exciting and foreign to me. Thanks!
