Aviations is what you get when you take 4 Berkeley grad students, add a bassist and a pianist - both of whom are god-tier - shake and stir. Their blend of cinematic, progressive heavy music is often called "cozy metal", and every musician should experience their work ASAP.

Top 3 song to pop on if you ever have to out run the cops! What's up Baltimore!
Hey Michael I'm assuming you are familiar with Chris, a Baltimore native. Im a huge fan of his stuff with " The Bridge" and a few of his solo tracks. This one though, just realy does it. It's got a hook you can hang a winter coat on! Hope you enjoy my friend, thanks for all you do!

I loved your Opeth reaction. I'm a long time Opeth fan and learned so damn much from that 26 minute video. I would really love to hear your breakdown of these guys and this song. Two guitars playing back and forth and then grooving down together and the poor bass player stuck in the corner doing his thing! Love your stuff!

Frankie and the Witch Fingers

Rock

Just randomly stumbled on these cats a few weeks ago. I get so many vibes from their 2023 album Data Doom. I've been singing their praise since I heard it. I hear XTC, Cheap Trick, White Stripes, DEVO, and many others. Very riff heavy and I love every minute of it. Not to mention their drummer played with Mike Watt and credits Tony Allen and Fela Kuti as influencing them on this record. Just read his t-shirt. Says it all. Much love my brother see you soon.

The video editing is unfortunately erratic (I wish the shot would just linger some instead of cutting all over the place unnecessarily), but the sound quality is the best I could find for a Boris live recording with professionally shot video.

This song is one of the more interesting in their catalog, with intense bursts of loud guitar coming in through a quieter song which is sung by Wata, the incredible guitarist with one of the more recognizable signature styles, and she is not typically this band's vocalist.

Okay, so the link is time stamped for the spot that I'm referring to. Now, Jake may have very well done this on purpose. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find that out.

Anyway, as you can hear, he hits a note that definitely doesn't sound like it's in key. What he does after that blew my mind. He then builds the solo around that note which certainly makes it sound like he did it on purpose in the first place. I would love to think that this is Jake recovering from that misplaced note.

Michael, I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Chimney - The Southern River Band

G’day Michael!

This is an Aussie band out of Perth - big riffs, bigger mullets, and some hectic lead guitar. They opened for The Darkness on their last tour to give you an idea.

Saw these guys live last night and they put on a killer show, would love to see what you think!

Cheers,
Nick

You've no doubt played some "tasty" licks, some "crunchy" riffs, or a "clean" solo. But what would it sound like to play a guitar "hatefully"? Porcupine Tree leader Steven Wilson gives it a go in this one. I like the creativity on display - as if they just took all the things that you aren't supposed to do in a song and just made it work. The drumming from Gavin Harrison is a treat, too!

Winery Dogs Regret 10 years later

Can't believe it's already been 10 years since this early Winery Dogs show (their 2nd ever). An all time great for me!
