Biography
I am in my early forties, married with two kids ( 11M, 8F). I have been playing music since I was a kid. Started with piano in early grade school then played alto sax in the junior band before picking up a bass guitar and changing my life. I played in bands from age 14 until my late 20's as a bass player. Most were ambitious hobbies, but one band was a full time touring gig.

Although I don't play in bands anymore, I still play everyday. Music is my life. I love listening, playing, writing, recording. I built a small studio in our attic space of our house and I love it. There is never not a song or a beat playing in my head.

I joined Guitargate because although I started as a bass player, I have spent the last 15 years self teaching myself guitar and trying to be a better player and songwriter. I wanted to take the courses and understand more of the theory and technical aspect of what I am doing on guitar. I have always done everything by ear, but after watching so many of Michael's reaction videos, I knew I wanted to be able to break down songs like he does. I love his videos and I identify so much with his enthusiasm for great storytelling and finding that right note or chord.

REACTED TO

I’ve wanted to suggest a Jeffrey Martin video for a while but could not decide on which one. His ability to evoke emotion, and paint a picture with words and melody is something to behold. His songs transport you into these small worlds where you feel like you are there.

“Red Station Wagon” off his most recent album is such a great example of his pure raw talent. It is a very powerful song about friendship, growth, and reflecting back on things you see differently now as you have grown older. It still chokes me up on every listen.

He is one of the most honest pure song writers out right now. He is on the same level as Prine and Isbell for me.

Other songs that are in heavy rotation for me are “Sad Blue Eyes” and “Coal Fire”
