Let's set the scene.
Night 1: Doc Watson's 100th Birthday celebration show. Lots of fantastic guests and a beautiful tribute to the life of the great Doc Watson. A much more subdued and intimate, sit-down show than what one would typically get from Billy.
Night 2: Billy and the boys came out for blood and brought the whole house down. Meet me at the Creek is always a 10/10 banger live regardless, and thankfully, he's now doing an official live release of the song and video of the greatest performance of the song to date.
I truly hope he releases the entire show as an album, as this song is only a nugget of the greatness that happened that night. There was also a single-mic encore with none other than Tony Rice's guitar. and that was a truly magical performance as well!
It's weird having your guitar hero be just a few years younger than you, but this kid is the real deal. I've played 20+ years, but never with any real direction. My first Billy show two summers ago was the navigational beacon.. I was always the guy who had an acoustic I never played, because I was a diehard electric guy. Fastforward to now, the acoustic is all I pick up. Flatpicking has definitely been the most difficult guitar "discipline" I've tried to date, but I can also say it is the most satisfying as well.
Anyway, I'm not looking for much of a break down here, I just wanted to share what was hands down the most incredible live music experience I've ever been fortunate enough to lay my eyes and ears on. Hope you enjoy, Cheers,
Will
