Michael, I've sent you covers from this guy before (SRV reincarnated). This is an original and it's smokin' hot!

Jack Barksdale. Remember that name. I'm betting you'll eventually hear this amazing kid play. I had the opportunity to hear him at a small gathering for my wife's friend (a patron of the arts) who asked for music as she is on palliative care (hospice) with stage 4 cancer. She also asked that this event benefit Music Meets Medicine (https://www.musicmeetsmedicine.org/ - an organization brings music to patients who need it most). Anyhow I've included the live streaming link of the entire show, but check out Jack performing "Gone" at 25:30. There are other songs he performs after plus a few other acts. This kid plays like he made a deal at the crossroads. That YouTube link is below but this site won't let me load that one so I've included one above from a jam in Austin.

I'm sure you've heard of Andy Timmons, but have you heard of Tommy Katona? Normally you'll see him with his band Texas Flood as SRV reincarnated. He's an amazing player and this duo got together recently to add a new dimension to the Gary Moore classic. Check it out!

Please give this one a listen - only the first 3 minutes since after that the artist breaks the song down for those wanting to learn. His left hand chord, bass, and melody fingering is dizzying to watch and this video gives a close up look at what he's doing.
I first heard this song on a Guitar Player magazine flexible record insert.
"In the July 1988 issue of Guitar Player Magazine Brad Jones was announced as the winner of Guitar Player Magazine's Soundpage Competition. Brad recorded his song "Back Porch Boogie" on a cheap K-Mart cassette tape and a boom box, entered the contest on a whim and won. Brad received a Gold Record for this song and it also earned him an invitation to play at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention in Nashville. A vinyl record of Brad's winning song was included with the magazine."

Billy Gibbons... I mean if the guitarist earned respect and praise from Jimi Hendrix, I'd say that makes him worth listening to. 😀 Anyway I love how down and dirty he gets with his licks in this one.

This is an amazing Texas Flood jam. If you haven't seen Tommy Katona before, he is like SRV reborn (he has an SRV tribute band and nails the tone, the voice, and the look). Wes Jeans and Matthew Scott are both unreal. Of course Andy Timmons' talent is well known. By way, if you get the chance to see a show at the Guitar Sanctuary, go! It's guitar geek heaven and about 5 miles from my house. Check out out!

While I see you've reacted to some other RHCP stuff, I have always loved Frusciante's tone, melodic playing, and use of the Hendrix vibe. This may not be the most complex song around, but since you talk so often about learning the melody, this one has the melody all wrapped up and around the guitar parts.
