Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger (Live)

It’s simple but it works, I especially like the dynamics & and the lyrics.

Recently discovered Charley and I loved his music almost immediately. Simple but powerful, and his picking hand is putting in work!

Thanks Michael, hope you get round to watching this one

Hi Michael, I recently discovered this band and I’ve become obsessed with them. They have elements of some of my favourite bands: Dio, Guns n Roses, Nightwish, In Flames, Ghost, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween - to name a few!

Anyway, I hope you check them out. They have 6 studio albums which are all awesome.

Thanks

I was listening to John Mayer - Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, and I realised that the song was in C# minor. I didn't know where to put this video so I thought the minor scale improvisation seemed like the closest thing?

I've started getting interested in music production so made a backing track in GarageBand using my guitar, an audio interface and a midi keyboard (for the bass etc). The chord progression is: C#m - F#m - A - E; which would be an i - iv - VI - III.

I looped the backing track over something like 40 bars, and then recorded the solo "live" over the top in one take (on a separate track).

I tried to capture a movie separately in QuickTime but couldn't quite get the audio and video to line up later in iMovie :( Need to work out how to do this better.

I'm using the Tim Henson amp plugin by Neural DSP in Garage Band for the guitar tones.

Created a backing track in Am using a looper which goes something like this:
Am -> Am -> Dm7 -> Em7 -> Dm7 -> Am

Solo'd over the top using the A minor scale, mostly trying to stick to the chord tones as the chord changed in the background

Great track performed in the legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road. Chris Buck’s tone and playing are outrageous as always. What’s not to love!?

I’ve been a fan of Mark Tremonti’s work for a long time, first with Creed and then Alter Bridge. Hearing him sing as well as crush it on guitar you can’t help but be in awe of this man’s many talents.

Created a backing track using drum machine pedal, added bass line with octave pedal...

added some chords to the loop:
Gm - Dm - Gm - Ab - Gm - Dm - F - F

which is:
i - v - i - III - i - v - VII - VII

and then played some lead over the top using fuzz and delay pedals for the tone

I’ve been a fan of Amos Lee for quite a while, having mostly listened to his studio work. Recently I started listening to his live performances and this one was especially cool with Daryl Hall (of Hall & Oates fame). Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This band is from my home town - I don’t think they’re even together anymore; but I always thought they were so good they deserved to be heard by more folks

Em jam, but started with the bass line and filled in some chords that sounded ok - then played some lead over the top (with fuzz).

Also my PRS wasn't working for ages, but managed to fix it with some electrical contact spray in the pots <3

Hi Michael, I know you've already done a few Marcus King reactions, but this is such a great song - it's his first performance at the Grand Ole Opry too.

Created a backing track using a looper, drum machine and octave pedal.

The chord progression is:
F - Am - C - G
F - Am - G - G

I think it maybe sounds a bit more like A minor than C Major to me, but I don't really know. I'm playing the Am / C major scale over the top.

Also using no pick for different finger dynamics; with more dramatic plucking in some places.

Reverb pedal is on all the time, the intro bit has some delay too (and possibly overdrive I can’t remember)

The loop has a drum machine pedal, and then some fuzz for the chords. I tried to add a baseline with an octave pedal but you can’t really hear it.

I left the fuzz on for most of the solo bit, but added overdrive, delay and wah in places.

The whole thing is basically: Am - C - G with the A Natural Minor scale on the top.

Created a backing track in the key of B minor, used a looper, a drum machine pedal and an octave pedal to get the bass line.

The progression is (I think):
B minor 7 - F# minor 7 - E minor 7 - G7 - A7

Then solo'd over the top playing the 7 notes of the key. Both the loop and the solo have reverb, the solo has delay, overdrive and wah in places. Also tried changing pickups and coil-taps to get different sounds.
