Biography
I'm an independent singer-songwriter based in Southeast Kansas. I've started gigging on the regional brewery, winery, farmers' market circuit and writing and releasing my own music. I've been playing for 25+ years, but GuitarGate has been critical in helping me refine my technique and unlock the fretboard.

I know you have a particular love for songs about the struggles of life on the road. Andrew Duhon's "No Man's Land" fits that bill perfectly. If you don't know the song, it's well worth the 4 minutes. A simple but powerful chord progression on a solo acoustic guitar underscores his deeply emotional lyrics about "weathering the storm of a love that's off and on." Enjoy!

I completed the two courses on triads a few months ago. The courses really helped open up my songwriting and inspire some new creative ideas. I started playing with a simple A major progression using the open 5th string as a drone while moving the triads around above it. The simple fingerpicked rhythm put me in mind of ripples running across a pond and that inspired this song. I'm releasing the full studio version this week, but I wanted to share the solo acoustic original version in response to the course that inspired it.

The Guitargate Triads part 1 course has really helped open up my playing. This is a song that I wrote that I'll be releasing as a single in a few weeks. I'm attaching a video of me laying down a guitar part based around the triad shapes from this course. I've recorded plenty of guitar parts on my songs before, but this course has removed a lot of trial and error and helped me find simple but musically viable parts much more quickly. Thanks Michael!

Bruce Hornsby is well known as a great piano player, but the group of musicians he surrounds himself with doesn't get enough credit. These guys are all phenomenal players--I saw them live 20 years ago and they haven't lost a step in that time. Every live performance is completely different and yet they seem to stay locked in on one another.

Interesting chord and key changes, amazing lyrics, and a great performance. Dawes in a nutshell.
