Biography
For 30+ years my pattern has been to get really into my guitar for 3-6 months, hit a ceiling, put it down for anywhere from 6-12 months, then regain interest and claw my way back to the same ceiling. Took a theory class in college and did not put myself into it. I really regret that now, and after only a short time with this course I can see how learning theory is opening up my mind to the instrument.

One of my all time favorite covers that Jerry loved to play. I don't think I've ever heard a bad version. His phrasing on the melody is so beautiful and joyous, it always brightens my day. I've been working on picking it apart and would love to hear Michael's take on it. The Fat Man rocks (and I miss him)!

This video is a series of solos (all great) but the one I would really love for you to break down is the first one (up to 06:36) for Black Napkins. It is some of the most relaxed playing I have ever seen which is made all the more remarkable by Frank's blistering speed. In general, it's some amazing rock & roll... stuff, but the solo seems to me beautiful, dark, and complicated while also managing to be light, and airy, and melodic. What I want to know, please, is how does he pull that off. The whole thing bends my mind into a pretzel.
