This was one of the first(possibly first) live performances of one of the most iconic Dead set combos. The guitar and bass work is so dark, psychedelic and out of this world. Please give it a listen if you haven’t heard it, a react would be insane though! John Mayer said when he was learning it for Dead and Co that this is one of those double black diamond level songs. I believe there is some diminished and Dorian madness, give it a listen I’ll think you’ll love it. Thanks for all the rad content helping me get through this quarantine.

KVHW is (Steve) Kimock, (Bobby) Vega, (Alan) Hertz, and (Ray) White. Super simple song, A -> D the whole way. Steve Kimock's tone, phrasing, and PATIENCE are what stand out to me here. The first few "lead guitar" breaks he keeps it real light and chill, only playing with chord inversions, triads, etc, up and down the neck. Finally, when he sits down on the stool about 2/3 into the video, he starts breaking out the single note leads. Again, he starts light, takes his time, finds the right licks, and slowly builds up. Eventually the whole band breaks it open for a minute or two of euphoric bliss. I'm always impressed with Kimock's patience and his ability to not play notes for a second while he considers what to play next. Other times he just opens up the throttle and goes full speed ahead. Also of note are Ray White's rhythm guitar, Bobby Vega's incredible bass playing, and Alan Hertz's powerful drums.

This song isn't particularly difficult to figure notes and chords but i've always been really impressed with the amount of pick work keller puts into all of his stuff. He seems to have a heavy emphasis on rhythm in all of his originals, and even the way he does some covers. I just found your channel thru your Phish reacts, and i've been a Phan since the first time i got stoned and listened to Reba when i was 14. It was on a recorded cassette, and i knew this band was like no other i'd ever heard, and i searched for the next 4 years trying to find who made the tune, until i ended up at a Phish show at Stowe in native Vermont in 1994 looking for acid, lol. I found something so much more valuable, after eating some acid of course. Needless to say that experience made me a lifelong Phan. I was at the Clifford Ball, along with 10 other theme shows (just watched your react). You need to make it to at least one Phish show, before Fishman dies from fucking COVID-19. You're a great teacher, and i appreciate it man! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW SON!!!
