Finger tapping is when you use the fingers on your picking hand to tap notes on the fretboard.  Think EVH. It’s beyond cool.

Some tips for finger tapping:

View the tapping finger as another finger on your fretting hand. This means that you can slide, bend, hammer-on, pull-off, etc.

This may seem obvious, but many players only tap with a single technique, and never vary their attack or phrasing when tapping. I think if you approach tapping as you do with your fretting hand, you will be a much more dynamo and musical tapper.

Lastly, tapping work best with a lot of distortion. Remember to mute the strings you aren’t tapping, or you will have crazy feedback and the notes will bleed through and have no definition.

And don’t forget about your tapping harmonics!
