James Bay seems to have flown a little under the radar. His songs cut deep but are presented with a calming effect that would make anyone welcome pain.
His album cut of this song is great, but this live performance would draw any guitarist in with his added solo not on the album version. This would inspire any guitarist. Love it!

This is how I've practiced this and a suggestion. Maybe this could help someone else.

3 Ways I tune my guitars. Tuner, 5th & 4th frets, and harmonics.

A quick view of my humble studio. It's not amazing, but it didn't start this way.

I started with an old cassette tape recorder w/mic and whatever guitar or piano I could find. Then I moved up to a computer, DAW, and cheap mic.
I upgraded slowly from that point.

Still not the 'ultimate', but I love it and appreciate it. It gets me where I need to be now. "There's no better time than now."

We all start somewhere!

They're not fancy, but they each have a story and help me do what I gotta do so I love them!

So many John Mayer songs to choose from. I think Continuum is his best album so far. So any song you'd like, but I've always like Belief. It has a great groove, great energy, easy on the ears, love the solo, and just a well written song all around I think.
Thanks for all you do.

I've always liked his music. I don't think he gets enough credit. Enjoy!

Michael, I've only seen one video shared on this artist, but I haven't seen a reaction video of him. I thought I'd give him a go. This is not my writing style necessarily, but I've always gotten a lot of joy out of listening to him. His songs always seems to lift my spirits no matter what my mood is. Plus, he's just a great guitar player.

There are a few songs of his I wanted to share, but the one I'm sharing now just seemed to have a good energy to it. However, if you'd like to 'react' to the other ones, please feel free. I'll let you choose.

They are:
1) "First Ride" ( https://youtu.be/170GfcR1i_A )
2) And "Berkley Springs" ( https://youtu.be/-op5cj6uknE ) - I especially love his interlude at 1:38.

Enjoy!

This was always a favorite of mine. It seems like Eric changes keys or modes a few times in this song, especially at the beginning. I'd like to understand more what he's doing. I've tried to mimic what he does, but I get lost in all the 'relatives' and key 'relationships' (e.g. keys, modes, improvs, etc.). Simply, what's happening?

First things first... thank you, Michael! I'm a new subscriber.
I've found a new motivation/inspiration for 'getting back to the basics' along with falling in love with music again because of you! You're doing a great thing here on GuitarGate! You are the teacher so many have been waiting for; no smoke, all fire!

I was born to play by ear so this theory learning thing is new to me. I've experienced a lot of music, but I randomly found this video and would like to know what he's doing here. It seems like he changes key signatures, but this could be a mode thing; something I'm still learning about.

Can you shed some light on it?
