Aside from the fact that this is a staggering piece of music video I am suggesting this because I thought it might be new to you and I am close to certain you will be really affected and impressed by it. This is a live track by John Martyn at the peak of his powers in 1978. He is doing a numbingly personal rendition of the song Solid Air which was written about his close friend Nick Drake after he died from an overdose of anti-depressants. Aside from the depth of the emotional content there is so much to see, hear and learn from in this video - the first two and a half minutes is a small masterclass in how to handle a broken string in mid-concert, funny but quite remarkable as well - the song begins at 2:25 and his soulful but aggressively fearless guitar technique is immediately evident...as is his incredible and quite unique vocal approach. The song relates the story of the mental turmoil of Nick Drake and the nature of their friendship...and times the performance seems so personal you feel almost embarrassed to witness such a stark reveal. Brace yerself.
