This song is played in open C and showcases Elliot's guitar playing and ability to string together a melody. Although the sound is a bit off, this version showcases his fret hand. Elliot is noticed more for his songwriting, but his guitar playing has to rank up there with some of the best. This song is about a friend who is struggling to succeed and considers selling out his ideas. The narrator tells the friend to not give in and that success will come.

I wasn't sure what to tag this as, so i chose Technique.

I'm learning how to play this song and it's kinda kicking my ass. The melody and rhythm of this song combined with the fingerpicking technique used by Elliot in this song is a bit haunting. The song is 120 bpm, in Am, and a capo on the 5th fret (respective to standard tuning). The first couple of chords used in the intro are kind of interesting, relative to the capo: Bm (open low E and A strings) -> A -> Bm6 (open low E, G, and high E strings) -> Bm6/A (open low E, A, G, and high E strings) -> G. It's that second Bm shape that sounds a bit haunting. He adds a number of flourishes throughout the song that are subtle but add depth to the song. I think it would be interesting to discuss the chord choice, fingerpicking style, the way he connects the pieces together with the base notes, and an approach to learning how to play fingerpicking songs.

Hope this video works, it hard to find a live version that show both hand placement and sound decent.

React video.

Typical of Elliot, Angeles is fingerstyle picking with a beautiful melody and somber lyrics. I'm interested in you picking apart both the fingerstyle as well as the chord changes. This version of Angeles has an earnest moment. About a minute into it he messes up the lyrics, bails on the song for a few seconds, and then starts back up. It is absolutely what I love about live performances.
