Today Nicholas Jamerson popped into my Apple Radio feed while I was on the way to our local farm to pick up our milk.

The song that came on was called "Clear Picture." A very classic country song that inspired me to switchover and listen to the album - The Wild Frontier. It is incredible. A Country Opera if you will.

A couple of songs in and I was hooked. Then I played his latest album "Peace Mountain" and this song came on. Reminded me immediately of Tedeschi Trucks. It features Maggie Noelle accompanying on vocals and I believe her band Magnolia Boulevard is playing as well.

Yes, it's a new video, so has some production.

However, we all know Blackberry Smoke can do it live so maybe something fresh and fun.

I was messing around the main riff seems to be in A minor but would love to get your take on the key center and why this all works!

We all know this one.

I've never heard of either Martin Miller or Lari Basillo before this, but man this whole band just CRUSHES it.

Hope you enjoy it!

While considerably shorter than Bowies from 94 and 95, this one is comparatively succinct.
Don't sleep on this one though, the focus from all four members of the band is visible.
The first 4-ish minutes feature a baroque style composition that alternates between melody and harmony with contrasting interludes and is mostly instrumental (other than the requisite David Bowie and UB40 shouts). With a fade in intro and a crescendo that falls off into silky improv jam centered around an Em->D chord progression.

Like most David bowie jams sections, it starts slow and builds to an tense peak with dissonant tension that releases to consonance and grows in intensity until the outro that feels like the finale of fireworks show.

Also sorry Mr. Tonic, sticking with a Bowie over a Gin :)

Just discovered these fantastic fellows!

Nothing but Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, Upright Bass, Banjo, and the obligatory bluegrass vocal harmonies!

Check it out!

We know them.

We love them.

We should react to them.

Is there really any more description needed than the title?

REACTED TO

This is an oldie from the benefit show for Allen Woody.

Beautifully Broken with some doves crying and guitars weeping.

George Porter Jr joins on bass.

I know literally nothing about this guy. Never heard of him, have yet to listen to another track (I am on my way now), but this performance blew me away.

Thought I would share.

Enjoy!

Hopefully the direct link works, but the timestamp is 26:44 if it doesn't.

This is a pretty sad song and lyrically it is right on the nose. For anyone who has dealt with or lost family or friends to addiction, it really hits hard but for some reason helps me remember the good qualities of loved ones I've lost to the bad stuff.

Musically it's pretty simple (Cadd9, Em7-ish), but lots of layers with 3 guitars, drums, and percussion.

The Black Crowes in their PRIME. Growing up in the same town (Marietta, GA) as the Black Crowes and seeing them in small local venues as their popularity grew was.

The 1992 High as the Moon tour was outstanding and this is probably THE standout live version of their hit song Remedy.

Part Rolling Stones, Part Led Zeppelin, and all Southern Rock.

Another great live one from Blackberry Smoke.

The groove on this is unbelievable. It's hard not to move when this song is cranked.

Despite its simplicity the layering and space really gives it a huge sound.

Michael,

Thanks for putting up with my incessant Blackberry Smoke requests.

Here is another rocker - it' a full show but I have it time stamped to start at the correct song this time :)

Charlie Starr is in a odd tuning for this (D G D G B E) - Open G but don't drop the first string.

I hope you love it,

TL

Michael,

I was pretty shocked in the Tuesday Live Traction at how many people are completely unaware of Blackberry Smoke.

From country to rock to folky type ballads, their range is fantastic as is their songwriting lyrically and musically.

Leave a Scar is a southern rock quick hitting barnburner. Nothing fancy, just fast and loud with the Orange's cranked.

I have the link at the timestamp since this is from a full show.

Take care!

Yes, yes, another Blackberry Smoke request.

Woefully underplayed and the greatest Rock and Roll band of the past 20 years - and that is not an understatement!

I am surprised you haven't reacted to a Josh Smith tune yet.

He seems like a pretty good dude and man can he play! His touch and dynamics are incredible.

I have the video tagged the start point of the stage banter before the song (1:17:07).

Nearly all of Blackberry Smoke's songs are fantastic both lyrically and musically, but this is one that really gets me.

The gist of it is don't worry about what other people think of you. Do what makes you happy and let others do the same.

You're in Drop D with a capo on 2. The overarching riff is a similar feel to Midnight Rider albeit a bit more ominous sounding and turns the "let me do me" lyrics into more of a "leave me the F alone or else" feel.

This hits all the right spots for a Sunday morning revival.

See what happens when you sprinkle a little Allman Brothers with a touch of James Brown and some Grateful Dead style Lovelight for good measure?

The Turner brothers along with Preston Holcomb drive this Gospel Groove while Brandon Still lays down the organ color for that true Sunday morning worship feeling.

The three guitar onslaught from Charlie Star, Paul Jackson and Benji Shanks plows this rocker home. They each get a chance to show off their chops and never get in each others way.

Michael,

Let's get some more classic (modern) Rock & Roll on here!

There are a few requests out for Blackberry Smoke (most from me) as they are fantastic live and any of them will do!

Here is another that is a fan favorite where they sandwich in a verse or two from a classic rock or country tune (This particular version features Led Zeppelin's Your Time is Gonna Come).

Michael! This is one I think you will dig.

Charlie is tune to open G but super easy and fun to play in standard tuning.

Fantastic lyrics and the singing is always perfect. This is the best rock and roll band of the last 20 years, hands down.

Michael,

I am not sure how much you've listened to Blackberry Smoke, but sadly only one reaction.

They are one of the greatest bands of the last 20 years. Straight ahead Southern Rockers who pay homage to their roots and no matter when you see them, they are having a great time.

Choosing a BBS song for a react request is extremely difficult for me. Their songs run the gamut of emotions both lyrically and musically. Charlie Starr and the rest of the band have a knack for taking simple melodies and progressions and turning them into music that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

Whether singing about love, loss, family, good times, or the crappy situation of the world right now, their music provides a cathartic release that most often these days I have their collection on shuffle. Even my 6 year old daughter loves them!

This song while an older one really sums up the world around us (especially those of us so close to the epicenter of American politics).

Mike,

This is something very different from your usual reaction. A reaction might not be warranted, but I hope all watch an enjoy as much as I did.

For anyone who has served or has family who has served, this is pretty damn powerful stuff.

Hats off to the Kiffness for his salute to those who put sacrifice everything for us to live in comfort with liberty (present circumstances notwithstanding).

Every musician in this band is a legend that most people have never heard of.

Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Waddy Wachtel, and Steve Postell,

The musicians they have produced albums for, sessioned for or toured with is ridiculous.

Here's a few: James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Don Henley, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Harry Nilsson & John Lennon, Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Etta James, Keith Moon

Samantha Fish seriously slays. I was surprised to search and see only one previous reaction request!

Bitch on the run is a raucous rocker with blazing lead work that stays true to the overall melody and chord tones.

This is one I think you will love!

I had lots of great thoughts to describe this video, but a YouTube Commenter said it much more eloquently than I could:

From Bob’s cerebral cortex to Jerry’s mouth, down on to his fingers from Heaven. If God could reveal himself in a song, and weave a tapestry of color along a path of lyrical nirvana, this would be it. Rest easy Jerry, you’ve served the world with more joy than any musician alive. Your devotion to its divinity is as mercurial as it was magical. Dearly, you are missed, Mr. Garcia
