"Fiddler's Green" is a song from the album Road Apples by Canadian rock group The Tragically Hip, written for lead singer Gord Downie's young nephew Charles Gillespie, who died before the album was released.

This performance of Fiddler's Green, eight months before Singer, Gord Downie passed away from brain cancer that was already affecting his mind, and during a live broadcast concert that shut Canada down.

Fiddler's Green is an after-life where there is perpetual mirth, a fiddle that never stops playing, and dancers who never tire. In 19th-century English maritime folklore, it was a kind of after-life for sailors who had served at least fifty years at sea.

2:38 King of the Past
7:50 California Dreamline
13:55 Claire
26:50 Dope Fiends and Boozehounds (*incredible*)

Canadian singer-songwriters of the past like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot have clearly made an impact on this bunch yet the music has a "post punk; post new wave" approach with a touch psychedelia. Incredibly eclectic with their Beachboy-like harmonies and soaring electric guitar (the Song of Flight instrumental designed to mimic the sound of whales singing).

Those that love the Rheostatics really LOVE them. Here we have the three singer-songwriters supported by keys, violin and as always a great drummer, returning for a live performance to the Historic Massey Hall in Toronto after many years away from touring.

They service the songs and support each other. Martin forgets lyrics half way through Cali Dreamline and they pull it together to warm the audience up for another dynamic show like we always remember.

Beautiful stuff that you probably do not get many requests for.

The first two songs are incredibly dynamic and visual. "Claire" is the only hit in Canada.

Just love this
