Mac Demarco truly has shown me the value of being simple not over complicating music. Plus, his zero fucks given personality is amazing!

This song has great dynamics and a bad ass bluesy feel!

Hey I was in this band around 14 years. This is a horrid video shot in the wind while we basically played an alley. You know one of those gigs:) Hope you enjoy. Looking to connect to some fellow guitarists here. I am always up for talking anything guitar related. Im getting older now, almost 50, but I have so so much to learn still. Be well GG friends!

Super technical fingerstyle piece by Calum. So many different techniques in one song.

Hey Michael, long time fan, just became a lifetime member. Wanted to throw out one of my favorite covers I've seen on YouTube. John Mayer is my favorite guitarist and I love watching how he adapts to another big guitar playing being on stage with him. The back and forth between John and Keith in this cover is nothing short of amazing. Also happens to be one of my favorite Beatles tunes.

PS: Keith's guitar tone at 5:03 is absurdly delicious.

Thank you for all that you do, Michael!

This band is insane! The drummers high hat work(which I know you love) is insane! The is a full set session which I highly recommend watching but if you fast forward to the 35:45 mark the last 10 minutes of the video, I think you will enjoy it! Killer guitar, drums, bass and keys. Killer vocals, songwriting, arrangement, jamming! It has it all!

Quite frankly, the name says it all. Haunting lyrics (written by Guy Clark), excellent flat picking and hybrid picking technique. This guy doesn't get enough recognition. The solo has always baffled me. I know you like "live" versions, but this particular video has things going on that he doesn't always do when paired live with Guy Clark singing. "Joe Walker's Mare" is another great song by Mr. Thompson.

Pure old school funk! Sorry, there's no video to go along with it, but well worth it!

A great cover of this song

Hi Michael,

I've been paying guitar in bands and jamming for 25 years, but when it comes to improvising leads, I've always felt stuck in the pentatonic boxes. I just signed up for your courses and in the first video I watched, your explanation of how the pentatonic scales of all the chords in a key add up to the full 7 notes scale for the key you're in BLEW MY MIND!! It's so simple (i.e. it's based on patterns I already know and play) but has completely breathed new life into my playing. I can't believe I've never seen it explained like that before!

On to my request. I love this version of this song, especially the guitar solo. I can play it note for note, but I have NO IDEA what is going on from a theory standpoint. I'd love to see you tackle it in one of your videos.

thanks, and keep up the awesome work!
Rowan

Hope you like it! Looking for some input on the overall approach to the song and the improvised solo I took on it.

Also trying to grow my YouTube Channel so I think it'd be great if you can let me know what you personally think and if it's headed in the right direction :)

Thanks Michael!

I hadnโ€™t heard this song in quite a while, until today, and I had to watch her performance on the GRAMMYs, it builds and builds and she brought the crowd to their feet at the end, powerful, beautiful.

Not sure why no one ever recommended this. Nevertheless, it's excellent and it's my pleasure to add it to your collection of awesome tracks. I hope u enjoy it. Cheers.

God I hope I done this right. New to copy and paste. If itโ€™s not the right video, please forgive me. Should be Doug Rappoport live with edgar winter group.
Good luck.

Brian Ball. New lifetime membership.

insanely creative and prolific 7 piece psychedelic rock group from Australia. They have released 15 albums since 2012, with 5 releases in 2017. They explore a vast array of genres and themes across their discography, from psych folk to jazz fusion to thrash metal, including a microtonal album. If you like this video I highly recommend their entire discography, and any live performance on KEXP as they have had several.
Stu Mackenzie-Lead Vocals, Guitar
Joey Walker-Guitar (Weird Red Guitar)
Cook Craig-Guitar (Bald with Ric)
Lucas Harwood-Bass
Ambrose Kenny-Smith-Keys, Harmonica
Michael Cavanaugh-Drums with no mustache
Eric Moore-Drums with mustache

I would really love to hear your analysis of the techniques Mark uses both to generate that round, warm tone and how he uses theory to evoke emotions and build tension.

CHON is super cool. They're decently similar to Polyphia.

A jam that seems very improvised. The bass player is whispering the lyrics to David Ryan Harris as they go along, and the drummer is having the time is his life.

sharing this on the small chance you see it mike :)

I picked up singing more seriously during quarantine and have gotten really passionate about music again. It's nice being back. I've wanted to try writing music for a while, and a few days ago I felt like finally sitting down and putting words to some melodies/chords.

Honestly, your passion not just for music, but _simple_ music (chasing thirds, tonics, some slightly more colorful voicings on chords everyone loves), was a big motivator for me. Helped me realize that I dont have to force anything crazy inventive or revolutionary, I just have to go with whatever I'm feeling and whatever I love hearing.

Hoping to write some more stuff soon because I'm really proud of what I made. basically got a membership just to share this here and say thanks for the inspiration.

One of the most killer artists, I think, on the scene today. This video blew her up 5 years ago, I think you'd love her looping and melody creations. Love the channel Michael!

A crazy and weird but awesome performance with great skills, no clue what tag to put here or what you would even be able to make of it (wondering though) but it always brings a smile on my face and most people hearing it for the first time have no idea what's going on but love it most of the time. This version has a nice backstory as they only had ~5 minutes and were asked to cut their song up a bit, instead they just played it faster.

This song won them a Jammy award for Song of the Year in 2006.
