Intro To Chord Tone Soloing: Hearing Each Chord
About this masterclass
In this weeks lesson, we're going to introduce the concept of chord tone soloing. This is where you move beyond "I'm soloing in A minor Pentatonic over all the chords" and get to "over A minor I'm telling a story about A minor, and over C major I'm telling a story about C major."
To do this, I'm choosing the relative major and minor keys of A minor and - you guessed it - C major. There is one passing chord in here to connect the two: G/B for those of you who are familiar with voice leading. If you're not, no worries. We'll do a dedicated lesson on that soon!
The goal is to HEAR and learn how to accentuate the root, 3rd, and 5th of each chord, and then mix and match! Please download the teleport track to your pedal and re-create. Don't be afraid - actually just commit - to uploading your parts and jump in other peoples songs!!
Set your drum machine to 93 BPM and 1/8 note rock.
Track1: C major, G/B, A minor chords
Track 2: Bass
Track 3 : Root focus, 3rd Focus, 5th focus, and then mix and match.
