Lesson 19 - Chromatics & Blue Notes In Melodies

Now for the flavor. The character, if you will.  The nuance is what makes players stand out even when using the same simple melodies.  Jerry heavily favored the chromatic approach to connecting chord tones within melodies, and you should give it a go. It's simple and amazingly effective. It's also important to understand WHY blue notes work in melodies. It's simple: the higher note always wins. In major melodies, it's the passing of the b3.  In Minor melodies, it's the passing of the b5. Just pull behind. It's that simple :)
