 # FAQ

 ## What is GuitarGate?

GuitarGate is an online guitar school and a community of players. The idea was to recreate what you get from a world-class guitar school, but online, on any device, whenever you have time. We were frustrated by how thin the quality of guitar education online was, so we built the thing we wanted.

Alongside the lessons there's Teleport, our pedal, which lets you record a part and play it with other members wherever they are.

## Who is the instructor?

Michael Palmisano is an award-winning graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. He has taught and played professionally in Baltimore, Maryland for over 20 years. He and his wife Annie have four boys and spend most of their time driving them to sports games.

## What will I learn?

The curriculum covers getting started, chords, scales, arpeggios, music theory, improvisation, tone, and technique. The lessons are conceptual rather than a list of songs to copy. The goal is a working knowledge of the instrument so you can find your own voice on it.

## Does the curriculum change?

Yes, constantly. Every lesson has a discussion under it. When a question keeps coming up in those discussions, we change the lesson. When something needs a lesson of its own, we make one. GuitarGate is not a book on a shelf.

## What is the Teleport pedal?

Teleport is our looper pedal. You record guitar, bass, and vocals on it, over built-in drum grooves, and it syncs your songs over WiFi to your account. Other members can then download a song, add a part, and send it back. The pedal holds up to 60 songs at a time.

It works with the Teleport app on [iOS](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/teleport-guitargate-labs/id6670145101) and [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.guitargate.teleport), and in a browser at [teleport.guitargate.com](https://teleport.guitargate.com).

For setup, WiFi, firmware, and everything else about the hardware, see the [Teleport documentation](https://guitargate-labs.gitbook.io/teleport-docs).

## Do I need a membership to use the pedal?

No. The pedal is yours once you buy it and it works on its own, with no subscription. A membership is what gets you the lessons, the masterclasses, and the rest of the site.

## Do I need a pedal to use GuitarGate?

No. The lessons, masterclasses, and community all work without one. The pedal is what lets you record and trade parts with other members.

## What do I get with a free account?

A free account lets you browse the site, listen to what members are posting, and join the conversation in the comments. No card required.

## What does a membership cost, and what does it include?

A GuitarGate Membership unlocks Michael's full course library and every masterclass, plus unlimited song downloads and exports. The annual membership also includes a Teleport pedal.

You can buy the pedal on its own if you'd rather not subscribe.

## Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes. Memberships come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If it isn't for you, email <support@guitargate.com> within 30 days.

## How do I cancel my membership?

Log in and go to [Manage Membership](/user/me/membership) in your account. That takes you to the billing portal for however you signed up, and you can cancel from there.

If the portal won't load or you can't get in, email <support@guitargate.com> and we'll take care of it for you.

We'd also genuinely like to know why you're leaving. A one-line reply telling us what we got wrong helps more than you'd think.

## What happens if I cancel?

If you own a pedal, it's yours to keep and it keeps working. Your songs stay yours. The lessons, masterclasses, and community pause until you come back.

## Do I have to post a video to complete a lesson?

No. Posting is optional, though we'd encourage it. Everyone here is trying to help each other, and negativity isn't tolerated.

## Who owns the music I upload?

You do. You keep full ownership of anything you record. Publishing a song lets other members listen, download, and collaborate on it according to the settings you choose. You remain the rights-holder.

## My pedal, the app, or WiFi isn't working

The [Teleport documentation](https://guitargate-labs.gitbook.io/teleport-docs) covers this in detail, including:

- [Registering your pedal](https://guitargate-labs.gitbook.io/teleport-docs/getting-started/quickstart)
- [WiFi problems](https://guitargate-labs.gitbook.io/teleport-docs/support-and-faqs/interactive-blocks)

- [Pedal and app FAQs](https://guitargate-labs.gitbook.io/teleport-docs/support-and-faqs/faqs)

If none of that sorts it, email <support@guitargate.com>.

## How do I delete my account?

Go to [Edit profile](/user/me/edit) and press "Cancel account" at the bottom. By default your posts stay up under your username. If you want them removed too, email <support@guitargate.com> and we'll delete the account and its content within 7 days.

Deleting your account is not the same as cancelling a membership. If you're paying, cancel the membership first.

## How do I contact support?

Email <support@guitargate.com>. That reaches us for technical problems, billing, and anything you want to ask Michael.
